FULL DAY PRESCHOOL FOR 2, 3 & 4 YEARS OLD

Our preschool has been educating students for almost 50 years in an after-school setting. Due to our success and the rising demand for additional childcare education in our community, we are expanding our program to a full-time daycare educational program for students ages 2 to 4 years old.

Our History

Building Today, For a Better Tomorrow

The Greek School of Plato was founded in Brooklyn in July 1977 as an independent Greek Afternoon School. The founders of the school joined together and raised the necessary funds to rent classrooms for one year, purchase mini-buses for student transportation, and make the first down payment on the original location of the school on 79th Street and 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The first Board of Directors and representatives of the school were dedicated to maintaining the Hellenic democratic spirit and Plato’s commitment to a quality, independent education.

In 2020, The Greek School of Plato launched Plato Kosmos, an online virtual program for children and adults to learn the Modern Greek language, who otherwise did not have access to a Greek language education. Currently, there are a number of students enrolled in Plato Kosmos from across the United States.

The Afternoon and Saturday School offers an array of classes for students from Pre-K to 9th grade, including Greek language, literature, mythology, history, geography, and folk dance, as well as preparation for the Greek Regents exam and Ellinomatheia exams.

The development of the whole child is our top priority. We take pride in our top-notch curriculum, modern facilities and individual approach.

Certified Teachers

Each staff member of our professional team is qualified in the field of Early Childhood Education. Equally important, our staff is carefully chosen not only for their experience but also for their warmth and enthusiasm. Our native-speaking Greek teachers bring many years of experience and passion to teaching our Greek language and culture.

Learn through Play

Our day care program is open to children aged 2 to 5 years old, which includes a focus not only on their academic skills through play but also social, emotional, and physical growth throughout their time here. We are dedicated to creating a nurturing, stimulating and welcoming environment for all children. Children do their best learning while they are relaxed, safe, comfortable and able to play. Learning should be fun! In our program we use fun and unique materials to engage the child.

Sports / Crafts

In a play-based or child-centered preschool program, children are able to choose activities based on their current interests. Learning activities such as creative arts, literacy, numeracy, social studies, science, etc. are presented to children through play. Educators encourage children to play, facilitating both social and emotional skills along the way. It often looks like children are “just playing”, but in fact, they are learning important educational, social, emotional, and life skills through the process of play.
